Jay H. Dushkin received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas School of Law in 1984. He is admitted to practice law in all Texas state courts, as well as the United States District Courts for the Northern, Southern, Western and Eastern Districts of Texas, and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Although exclusively practicing law, Jay is also a Certified Public Accountant.

Jay has been licensed to practice law in Texas for more than 20 years. He is rated “AV” by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory which is the publication’s highest rating.

Jay began the practice of law in September 1984 with the law firm of Saccomanno & Clegg, L.L.P., becoming a partner in 1990. On May 1, 1999, Jay opened his own firm, The Law Offices of Jay H. Dushkin.

Published opinions:

In John M. White d/b/a Alba Corp. v. Independence Bank, N.A., Jay Dushkin obtained a Summary judgment which was affirmed on appeal by the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Texas in 1990. In Igloo Products v. The Mounties, Inc., U.S. Dist. 1990, Jay Dushkin represented The Mounties, Inc. and prevailed at the district court level. Both of these cases have been cited in law books.

Sample Clients and Matters of Representation:

For over 17 years Jay has represented a janitorial services company, helping them form limited partnerships, reviewing indemnity contracts, preparing leases, and assisting them with various matters of contract law. Another long term client is a scrap company that Jay has represented for over 15 years in general litigation and contract review. Jay represents a factoring company in the collection of accounts receivable and a machine tool company in corporate issues and employment law contracts. One of Jay’s clients is a popular area restaurant that he has assisted with corporate expansion. Jay has represented the sellers of an ophthalmology practice, a granite company, and the assets for an oil equipment company. He helped a medical partnership convert from a general to a limited partnership. Jay represents individuals in the purchase of homes and the negotiation of architectural contracts. Jay also represents student loan organizations, assisting them in the collection of student loans, and defending them against debtor hardship claims. Jay successfully defended a long-distance telephone company in a class-action suit, obtaining a summary judgment which was upheld on appeal. Jay has also successfully defended an individual in a covenant not to compete case and reviews and drafts covenants not to compete for other corporate clients.
